Dorothy Effy Kirkby, 76, born in New Liskeard, Ontario, Canada to Jessie and William Kirkby on 19th December 1946 died on 3rd October 2023.

She was the eighth of eleven children and is predeceased by her siblings, Bill, Joseph, Georgina, Patricia, & Richard and her son-in-law, Paul.

She is survived by her daughters, Laurie & Louise and her grandchildren & great grandchildren, Jacquelyn (Grant), Stephanie (Jason), Cassandra, Veronica, Victoria, Laura (Trent), Andrew (Rayvn), Hunter, John, Tucker, Avery, Nicole, Austin, Henry, and another great grandchild on the way. Her surviving siblings are Charles, Lucy, Diane, Bonnie & Donald.

When Dorothy was 15 years old, she left New Liskeard for the big city of Toronto and never looked back. She worked as a receptionist and sales for most of her life. As a kid, she could outrun her siblings and enjoyed playing baseball with her sister Diane. Dorothy enjoyed traveling abroad, seeing parts of America, Europe and the Caribbean. She was a beloved Nan to her grandkids, teaching them how to swim, ride bikes, catch a softball, & enjoy the outdoors from leaf peeping in the Autumn and picking blueberries come summertime. She never let the car go past a Dairy Queen without feigning car malfunctions, because "the car needed a nap & we needed an ice cream cone." So, when it came time to enjoy her adult grandchildren, they feigned car malfunctions when a Starbucks was just beyond the windscreen as she ran on (mostly only) caffeine and a good laugh. Dorothy was a skilled & avid gardener and took great pride in toiling in the scorching Missouri summer sun to grow a beautiful garden. She was never formally trained in horticulture, but she learned her way and won awards for her gardening.  She also helped to breed and raise puppies with her daughters. There is great sadness in Dorothy's passing and we all hope she knew how special she was to us.

A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Midwest Cremation and Funeral Services.
