Obituary

Dorothy June Delfs, 87, of Humansville, MO, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2022, after a battle with pneumonia. She was born to Riley and Nancy Brown in Emporia, KS.

Dorothy (who preferred being called "Dotty") grew up most of her childhood in Kansas though she lived a couple of years in California. Since she did not complete high school, Dotty was proud of the fact that she attended classes and received her GED as an adult. She was a stay-at-home mom and housewife for much of her life. She did work at times as a waitress, a CNA, and as a receptionist at the airport in Emporia, KS.

Simple pleasures in life brought joy to Dotty. She was a talented musician who played bass guitar, rhythm guitar, organ, accordion, and harmonica. Dotty enjoyed performing in a family band and on a Branson stage show. She later performed with the Kansas Old Time Pickers and Fiddlers association where she met her second husband, Bill. In their retirement together, they performed in bands in Kansas and Texas, where they also traveled in their fifth-wheel trailer and worked as park attendants.

When she wasn't playing music, she enjoyed playing marbles, or cooking and eating! She also loved to fish and hunt for mushrooms. One of her favorite memories was catching a 28-pound channel catfish.

A faithful follower of Christ, Dotty was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) Delfs, her mother Nancy Woods, her father Riley Brown, and her sister Francis Schumann. We're confident that she is united with them once again.

Dorothy is survived by her two sons and their wives, Earl and Marilyn Knapp, Mike and Cathy Knapp, along with three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Midwest Cremation and Funeral Services, Springfield, MO. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider a donation to their favorite charity in Dotty's name. The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Compassus Hospice in Osceola, Missouri.
