Obituary

Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Teacher, and Friend, Diane Frances Collinson passed away surrounded by loving family on May 29th, 2025 at the age of 85 after complications from a stroke.

Diane was born in Long Island, NY, but soon moved with her parents, Charles and Frances, to the Ozarks and enjoyed an adventurous childhood in Springfield and Billings. Diane attended the Greenwood Laboratory School, where she made many lifelong friends, and graduated with a degree in Education from Southwest Missouri State. In her 30 year teaching career she taught in many rural Missouri schools including Norwood, Seymour, Hurley, and Niangua.

To know Diane was to be her lifelong friend from the day she met you, she embodied the essence of Missouri hospitality and friendship and was beloved by her generations of students, her coworkers, and her friends. Diane Loved God and celebrated her faith in the Episcopal Church. She would lift up those in need her entire life, from serving in the Girl Scouts to supporting her family, advocating for her students, or helping strangers get back on their feet.

Diane is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Frances Roop and her brother John Roop.

She is survived by children William Collinson and Cynthia Bacon, her grandchildren Katie, Maile, Will, Tessa, and David, her great-grandson Max, niece Angie and nephew Chris.
