Obituary

Clara Fern Frisk, 79, of Miami, Oklahoma passed into the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri on June 22, 2019. She understood and believed in 1Corinthians 15; wherein states that this was her spiritual birth day in heaven. At her request, her body was donated for medical research and she requested no memorial service.

Fern, as she was known to family and friends, was born on June 7, 1940 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Gussie Mack Aston and Clara Mildred (French) Aston. She attended school in Miami, Oklahoma. She married Richard Todhunter in 1957 and together they raised four daughters, Luanne, Shirley, Paula, and Elizabeth, moving to rural Miami in 1968.

Fern was a wife, mother, homemaker, softball coach, Brownie troop leader and was active in the First Christian Church of Baxter Springs, KS and later the Keelville church when her daughters were young. She then worked as the supervisor in the domestic department of Wal-Mart in Miami for several years. Later, she became a professional truck driver and met Leonard L. Frisk. They married in 1984 and enjoyed many adventures together. Leonard was her loyal friend, husband, and eventually, her loving caregiver. They were a highly accomplished professional over-the-road truck driving team for Tri-State Motor Transit, Joplin, MO in the 80's, R & R Trucking, Joplin, MO in the 90's while maintaining a residence in Oakdale, CA and later drove for Mel Swain Trucking, DeKalb, TX living in Texas until moving back home to Miami, OK. Throughout this time Fern and Leonard shared their love of travel, adventure and California with their kids and grandkids by vacationing in their RV. When they worked hauling rockets, they shared this experience as well in Florida by inviting family to see a rocket launch and spend time in their condo and take a lovely road trip with them to the Keys. Fern's and Leonard's generous spirits and zest for life and adventure leaves a legacy for which their kids will be forever grateful and will pass on to their families.

Fern is survived by her husband, Leonard; daughter, Shirley Barchak and husband Robert of Joplin, MO; daughter, Paula Landers and husband Byron of Miami, OK; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces & nephews.

Fern was predeceased by her parents; her daughters, Luanne and Elizabeth; her brothers, Gary and Winston; and a sister Shirley.
