Cheryl Ann Scogin, 73, of Thayer, MO passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2023. She was born to Cecil and Eileen Gochanour in Springfield, Illinois on February 17, 1950.

Cheryl devoted her life to caring for others. She raised four girls and served as a caregiver to her mom, dad, and older sister, Bonnie. She helped pastor churches, played piano, and taught Sunday School for over 45 years. She volunteered faithfully for Girl Scouts, book fairs, and a variety of community events. She was passionate about the value of education. When her kids were grown, she worked at Wal-Mart as a manager of the Pet and Garden department. In her free time, she loved to read, garden, walk her dogs, and go on adventures. She never passed up an opportunity for a new experience. Probably her favorite role though was to be Grandma. She fiercely loved her grandkids and left them with countless memories of their times together.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Edwin Scogin; her son, Daniel Ray Scogin; her father, Cecil Ray Gochanour; her mother, Eileen Lynch; and her sister, Bonnie Lee Hilbert.

She is survived by her four daughters, Sarah Elizabeth Bottarel (Francis), Bethany Lynne Jasper (Steve), Kimberly Joy Poulette (Garrett), and Carrie Sue Wiggs (Nick); twenty grandchildren, Hannah, Nathaniel, Carissa, Brianna, Devon, Chandler, Aaron, Andrew, Bella, Lexi, Levi, Brandon, Karla, Byron, Berta, Zane, Lainey, Tristan, Ava June, and Jude; and two great grandchildren, Ezra and Lucas.

Donations in Cheryl's honor can be made to Grand Gulf Shiloh Church or the Thayer Elementary School Library.

A celebration of Cheryl's life will be announced at a later date.
