Obituary

Rev. Charles J. Maves, 77, of Maranatha Village in Springfield, MO, passed away February 21, 2018. He was born October 25, 1940, in Ontario, Canada, to Daniel and Ella (Rucks) Maves.

Charles attended Eastern Pentecostal Bible College in Peterborough, Ontario and Valley Forge Christian College in Phoenixville, PA. He served as editor of Vista magazine for the Christian Church of North America (CCNA) and Eastern District Youth Director for the CCNA. He was an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God and served as sectional secretary-treasurer for the NJ District of the Assemblies of God. He was the author of The Third Person and had a radio program in NJ and pastored several churches along the east coast, including Patton, ME, Philadelphia, PA, Vineland, NJ, and Orange, MA. After retiring from ministry, he also worked for Ford Motor Credit and St. Barnabas Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary (Sorenson) Maves, February 25, 2014; son-in-law, Raymond N. Hodgerney; brother-in-law, Denzil Wagner; siblings, Moody, Reuben, Daniel, Donald, Arthur, Esther Wagner, Elsie Edwards.

Charles is survived by one child, Lee-Ann Hodgerney; and two grandchildren, Raymond J. and Ellen M. Hodgerney; sisters, Eleanor Berger, Berniece Meilleur, Emma Wagner; sisters-in-law, Elaine Maves, Dawn Maves, and Armelda Maves; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 26th at 11 a.m. at Pembroke Pentecostal Tabernacle in Pembroke, Ontario, Canada, with interment at Zion Evangelical United Church Cemetery in Alice Twp., Ontario.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Midwest Cremation and Funeral Services.
