Obituary

Charles Leo Mashburn (83) of Bolivar passed away in Buffalo on November 28, 2022. "Charlie" was born July 26, 1939, on the family farm between Goodson and Louisburg, the first of four children born to Betty (Crowell) and Jesse Mashburn.

Charlie lived most of his life in Polk County and worked as a tree trimmer, auctioneer, and truck driver. In earlier years he enjoyed bird hunting and training bird dogs. After retiring, he spent many days trail riding his horses and his favorite mule Rhoda. Charlie was an avid fan of high school football and basketball. Before his health declined, he could be found at many Bolivar High School games.

He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Betty and Ray Purrier; his father and stepmother, Jesse and Berniece Mashburn; and a brother, Bill. He is survived by his sister, Janice (Talley) Graves of Florida; his brother, Gene (Lila) Mashburn of Colorado; and sister-in-law, Patsy Mashburn of Springfield.

Charles is survived by his five children, Brad (Deb) of Senegal, Kent of Bolivar, Jami (Brent) Russell of Springfield, Kelly Baumhoer of Beaufort, SC, and Casey of Fair Play.

Charles was blessed with seven grandchildren; Chance (Anne) Russell, Kelton (Maddy) Russell, Foday Mashburn, Drew (Kelsey) Mashburn, Brock (Sara) Mashburn, Massaly (Drew) Crismon, and Yaelie Mashburn. He also had many nieces and nephews.

His lively great-grandchildren are Eli Mashburn, Jude Mashburn, Micah Mashburn, Abigail Mashburn, and Atlas Crismon.

For several years, Charles attended Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church east of Bolivar where a grave marker is placed in the church cemetery.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am Monday, January 2, at Citizens Memorial Hospital (CMH) in Bolivar in Community Room #3.
