Obituary

Charles Lee "Dick" Dixon was born September 30, 1946, to Lewis Lee and Cynthia Jewell (Stow) Dixon.

After graduating from Central High School May 28, 1964, Dick joined the Navy. He served twenty years, retiring in 1983. He served on four ships: USS Intrepid, CVS11; USS Forestall, CV59; USS Constellation, CV64; and USS Coral Sea, CVA 43. His MOS was AME. Following the Navy, he joined the staff of McBee Binders in Springfield, where he worked in several capacities including an operator, estimator, and production manager in Stockton, CA. Back in Springfield Dick managed the Red Wing Shoe Store and joined Cox Health as a supervisor, where he worked for five years before retiring in 2010. Audrey Ellington and Dick married in 1994 and have traveled throughout the US and Canada. They were snowbirds in Florida two years before failing health grounded them to Springfield. Dick worked through Solomon Lodge and became a Worshipful Brother (Master). He also served as a hospital dad in the Shrine, transporting children to St. Louis Shriner's Hospital.

Dick married Jeanette Burgess with whom he had two children, Jason (Carla Albanese) and Emily (Cory Nelson). Grandchildren are Joshua Wallace; Kailee, Tristen, Matthew, and Miranda Dixon; and Ella and Kane (Katie) Nelson; step great and grandchildren, Lance, Jackson (Chloe), Katelyn, Autumn and Luke Ellington, and Ryan, Brandon, and Trenton Cox. Stepchildren are Nathan Ellington (Mindy Gore) and Melanie (Brent Cox). Three sisters-in-law are Beverly Petersen, Barbara Feddersen, and Jennifer McCullough. Audrey and Dick would have celebrated their 30th anniversary December 6.
