IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles
Chilcutt
April 1, 1945 – January 9, 2025
Charles "Charlie" Glen Chilcutt was born in Bois D' Arc, Missouri to Glen and Hazel Chilcutt on April 1, 1945.
Charlie passed on January 9, 2025, at the age of 79. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia Wimmer Chilcutt; two children: Jamie Deyman (husband Brad Deyman) and Sherry Chilcutt (husband, Hank Delamare) both of Olympia, Washington. One Grandson, Jarrod Hart-Norris (wife, Gabbie Hart-Norris) of Melbourne, Florida.
Charlie is also survived by a sister, Linda White and brother-in-law James White of Ashgrove, Missouri; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended friends and family.
He moved frequently when he was young as his father struggled to find work. This resulted in him attending many schools in Southwest Missouri, graduating from Ashgrove High School. He went on to attend Southwest Missouri State University, where he received a bachelor's degree in Economics.
While attending college, he worked 40 hours a week, dishwashing at the old Holiday Inn on Glenstone. This is where he met Pat. Charlie threw an egg at Pat, and they started throwing it back and forth. Charlie had to turn away and Pat cracked the egg and tossed it back. Soon after, they were married.
Charlie graduated college with a two-year commitment to the United States Navy. He was a very green, country boy, and was put on a 707 straight to Vietnam. In Danang, he joined his ship the LST, Sutter County. He went on board as a first-class electrician and definitely did not know what he was doing! Thank goodness he was a quick learner. His ship's home port was Guam, but he also spent time in the Philippines and Hong Kong. He went on to serve in the Naval Reserves for 20 years. His annual two-week training for the Navy included a road trip to San Diego, California where he stayed with his brother, David Chilcutt and his family. He treasured those annual trips.
His first job after departing the Navy was as assistant manager at Lum's Burger in Springfield, MO. During his career as a cook and manager, he worked at many restaurants including The Arrowhead, Shady Inn, Villa Verde, and Hickory Hills Country Club. He specialized in the presentation of food, including carving vegetables, making ice carvings, and gingerbread houses. Charlie finished his career cooking for The Community Learning Center and Group Home.
Charlie loved learning and was never one to waste money. During his career in restaurants, he went back to school and earned his second bachelor's degree in business at Drury College, paid for by the Veterans Administration.
In his spare time, he bought small homes and fixed them up to be rentals. Charlie was passionate about providing decent, affordable homes for folks who truly needed them. The majority of his tenants rented from him for decades.
Charlie loved nature and was always up for an adventure. Saying Yes took him rafting in Idaho, sailing on Puget Sound and up in a ballon over Mexico. Charlie made time for interesting experiences in his life.
Charlie loved music and appreciated a good tune. He also, in his quiet and loving manner, made himself available to help people. That sort of kindness is a rarity, and Charlie brought that selflessness and generosity into the lives of so many people.
He will be remembered for his quiet wit, his loving kindness, and his eternal love and support for his family and friends.
