Obituary

Chanse Owen Shrock of Springfield, Mo, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 15th, 2025, at the age of 37. He was born on September 4th, 1987, in Centralia, Illinois. He was the firstborn child and only son of Owen Shrock and Lila (McElroy) Woollums.

Chanse loved all creatures, big and small. He had a particular passion for fish and other aquatic creatures. He owned over 150 fish, most notably his collection of Koi, his Arowana—he named Sky—and his Lung Fish—named Dino, his very own living, breathing dinosaur. He also had an assortment of snails and two water turtles. Chanse also loved cars. From a young age, he could tell you almost anything you wanted to know about close to any car out there.

Chanse met his wife, Amy, in May 2008, when they were both working at Reckitt Benckiser. They married later that year, on November 3rd, 2008, and remained married until his passing. They welcomed their first son, Mason, on February 13th, 2010, and their third son, Remington (Remy), on April 16th, 2016. They suffered the loss of their second son, Dominic, who was born sleeping, on September 26th, 2011. Chanse's little family was the light of his life.

Anyone who knew Chanse knew that he had a huge heart, which he loved with hard. He made a point to try and brighten the days of those around him when given the opportunity and was never too busy for a phone call or conversation with anyone, even if that phone call lasted several hours. He was never short on stories to tell and often had a very goofy, childlike personality, which made him a joy to be around.

He is preceded in death by his son, Dominic; a niece, Phoenix; and four grandparents, Walter and June Shrock; and Roy and Helen McElroy.

He is survived and missed by his wife of sixteen years, Amy Shrock; two sons, Mason Shrock, and Remington Shrock; his father, Owen Shrock and Catherine Tidlund of Republic; his mother, Lila (Nick) Woollums of Fair Grove; three sisters, Trista (Derek) Miller, of Springfield; Tiffani (Byron) Barton, of Springfield; and Myah Shrock of Republic; four nephews, Takota Johnson, Jace Jansson, Ari Thicklin and Asher Thicklin; one niece, Fynlee Miller; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins who will miss him very much.

A memorial will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 25th, 2025, at Hickory Ridge Baptist Church located at 1311 E. Valley Water Mill Rd, Springfield, Mo 65803.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Midwest Cremation and Funeral Services of Springfield, MO.
