Obituary

Cathy Lynn Von Holt
January 11, 1958 – January 12, 2025

Cathy Lynn Von Holt, aged 67, from Willard, MO passed away peacefully on January 12, 2025, at 3:50 a.m., following a courageous 4.5-year battle with Stage 4 terminal cancer. Her unwavering strength and optimism were an inspiration to all who knew her.

Cathy was born on January 11, 1958, in Springfield, Missouri. She attended the Willard School District before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, where she served honorably for over 16 years. During her military career, Cathy was awarded numerous commendations, including the Air Force Commendation Medal, Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Outstanding Unit Award, among others. She was an accomplished professional, holding various administrative roles and later dedicating her life to assisting fellow veterans as a Veteran Service Officer with the VA Commission.

Even after her cancer diagnosis, Cathy remained hopeful and optimistic, always seeking new treatments and cherishing every moment with family and friends. Her love for the beach, reading, and connecting with others—especially veterans—defined her life. Cathy was known for her impeccable style, particularly her love for matching shoes and purses, and for her warm, engaging conversations with everyone she met.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Lavanya Tiriveedhi and her staff for their exceptional care, as well as the compassionate team on the oncology floor at Mercy Hospital. Cathy's caregivers ensured she could spend more time with those she loved, and their kindness will never be forgotten.

Cathy is preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; her parents, Ernie and Beverly Von Holt; and her nephew, Cody Rankin.

She is survived by her beloved son, Erik Winter, and his wife, Xenia, along with her four cherished grandchildren: Jacob, Kaylee, Emma, and Nadia Winter, all of Washington State. She is also survived by her devoted sister, Vicki Von Holt of Willard, Missouri; her close friend whom she considered a brother, Mike Wright of Des Moines, Iowa; and her dear friend, Beverly Barnett.

Cathy's love extended to her pets, including her "support" cat, Skittles; her cat, Lillie; and the four doodles she shared with her sister—Lexie, Evie, Brody, and Tucker. They will all miss her hugs, treats, and her sneaking them snacks.

Cathy will be remembered for her boundless compassion, strength, and love for family, friends, and her community. She touched countless lives and will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, honoring Cathy's memory and her lifelong dedication to helping others.
