William "Bill" Chitwood, Jr., 87, of Nixa, MO passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 23, 2022.
Bill was born December 4, 1934, to William, Sr. and Mamie Chitwood in Bergman, Arkansas. He grew up in Omaha, Arkansas and attended School of the Ozarks in Branson, Missouri where he graduated in 1952. Soon after graduation, he served as a Medic in the Army from 1957-1963, he was stationed in Berlin, Germany where he also enjoyed playing on the army's traveling basketball team. Bill worked at Dayco Cooperation for 35 years, served as the former Mayor of Nixa, Missouri in the 70s, and was a beloved Crossing Guard at Matthews Elementary. On March 16, 1973, Bill was wed to Janet Spreacker in Miami, Oklahoma; the two cherished 49 years of marriage together.
If not at work or with his family, Bill would be found fishing with his best friend Gordon Bates, either at Table Rock Lake, down in Texas, or up in Canada. Bill attended First Baptist Church Nixa with his family for over 50 years where he was a devout member and dedicated to the Lord.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents William, Sr. and Mamie; his brothers, Thurlow and Pete; his sisters Marie Beshears and Jean Journagan; and his son, Jason. He is survived by his wife, Janet; two daughters, Allison and Gloria; son, Scott; 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson; and his sister, Billie Friend of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Midwest Cremation and Funeral Services of Springfield, MO.
