Betty Lee Garrett of Springfield, MO, passed away at the age of 89 on Friday, May 15, 2015. She was born September 10, 1925, in Sedalia, MO. Betty was the daughter of Lawrence and Lee Englund. Betty was united in marriage to Robert Bob Garrett on January 25, 1948. They had a wonderful life together until his passing just shy of their 50th year wedding anniversary. Betty was a "Band Aid" for the Shriners Band, and The Swingers of which her husband, Bob, was the drummer and director for many years. Also, she was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. She enjoyed working part time at Neff's Ladies Apparel for many years, forming many lifelong friendships. She was a very talented artist and painter and a Cub Scout den mother. Betty Garrett was kind, thoughtful, and maintained her lifelong cheerful disposition until the very end. Even while dealing with Alzheimer's, she always had a sense of humor. Aside from this, she was blessed with being a beautiful woman. From her middle years on, everyone would be astounded upon learning her true age, as she always looked at least twenty years younger. Most importantly, she was a wonderful homemaker and mother to five children. Preceding her in death were her husband, Bob; parents, Lawrence and Lee Englund; her sister, Yvonne and her brother, Larry. Betty is survived by her children, Kathy Mckelvie and husband Tim of Republic, MO, John Garrett and wife Mary of Venice, FL, Danny Garrett and wife Carol of Oklahoma City, OK, Thomas Garrett of Springfield, MO, and Peter Garrett and wife Julie of Springfield, MO; thirteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 2 PM in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements have been entrusted to Midwest Cremation and Funeral Services.
