Barbara Ward-Maher passed away peacefully at her home June 6, after a long, courageous battle with lung disease. Barbara was born to Frank and Mae Bowers August 1, 1940. She was the third girl and the next to last sibling, in the large Bowers family with 4 boys and 3 girls.

Barbara was married to Jim Ward in 1959. Their family grew to include Gregg and Shelly. Her career started with Southwestern Bell, where she worked until she retired 30 years later.

Family was always her focus. Her grandson Adam Ward and his wife Rebecca, and great grandsons Jonathan and Gabriel visit Springfield very often to spend time with Great Grandma Barb and Great Grandpa Joe!

In 1999, Joe Maher married Barbara. Together they made a life in Republic 6 months a year and Florida 6 months a year. Truly happy and enjoying life. Joe's family, Christy and Joey, plus his 4 grandchildren were also visitors in their home.

Barbara leaves many friends and family that will mourn her loss. She was a best friend to everyone.  She was one of God's most giving servants!

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church on July 6, 2024. Visitation 10:00am, Service 11:00 am, Lunch 12:00.

In lieu of flower, family requests donations to Calvary Baptist Church or the Humane Society.
