Obituary

Dr. Andrew Platte Cunningham, the son of Robert Cyril and Helen Marian Cunningham, was born June 27, 1951, in Springfield, Missouri and departed this life to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 4, 2025, after a short illness at the age of 73 years.

Andrew (Andy) was a devoted husband to Dr. Lystra Richardson of Guilford, CT, and loving father to Meredith Cunningham, Shannon Hachman, both of Springfield, MO and Renelle (Casey) Roberts of Chesapeake, VA. Andrew was also an amazing grandfather to Dominic Ochoa of Rolla, MO, and Daphney & CJ Roberts of Chesapeake, VA. He is survived by his older brother, Philip (Marlene) Cunningham of Tulsa, OK and younger sister, Beth (Robert) Main of Dunn, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest brother, Dr. R. Stephen Cunningham (Judy Brown). Andrew cherished his many nephews and nieces, Tamra (Rick) Buchanan of Oklahoma City, OK; Michele (Matt) Skelton of Tulsa, OK; Ryan (Genevieve) Tedder of Los Angeles, CA; Robert A. (Trista) Cunningham of Lewiston, ID; Richard Cunningham of Modesto, CA; Anne Greenaway (LJ Carroll) of Broadway, NC; and Charles (Cheryl) Greenaway of Ozark, MO.

Andrew was dedicated to his family and to following the Lord's calling on his life. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Kansas, a Masters of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Doctorate of Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary. He was an ordained minister and missionary with the Assemblies of God. Early in his career he served at the West African Advanced School of Theology in Togo, West Africa and at Continental Theological Seminary in Belgium. He later spent three decades working among post docs and scholars as a Chi Alpha missionary and most recently with Intercultural Ministries both at Yale University, New Haven, CT.

Andrew had a joie de vivre that included his love for the KC Chiefs, riding motorcycles and ATVs, learning about different cultures and people, and making his family feel loved and supported. He will be sorely missed until we see him again beyond the gates of Heaven.

"Seek the LORD while he may be found: call upon him while he is near." Isaiah 55:6
