IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alvin
Pohlenz
June 9, 1943 – April 14, 2022
Alvin "Al" Pohlenz, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on April 14, 2022 at age 78. He faced life with humility, strength and integrity.
Al was born June 9th, 1943 in Denver, Colorado and grew up in Lincoln, and Fremont, Nebraska. He met his wife and love of his life of 61 years, Virginia "Ginny" Lee Gregory, when he was sixteen years old, at Bethel Baptist Church in Wichita, Kansas. They were married on April 30, 1961. They had five children, Alvin Eugene Pohlenz (Barb), Lloyd Edward Pohlenz (Rhonda), Michael Scott Pohlenz (Rebecca), Leona Michelle Pohlenz (Scott), and Katherine Renee Raines (Buddy).
Al had overwhelming love for all of his grandchildren, Daniel (Kristina), Brendt (Amanda), Tiffany (Nick), David, Crystal, Kenzie, Laurel, Rosie, Ruby, Jordan (Megan), Tyler, Jayson, Kenyon , Mayson and multiple great-grandchild. Nothing
made him smile more than spending time with his grandkids and nothing broke his heart more than the early passing of his grandson Tyler, so we rejoice that he has now joined him in Heaven!
In addition to being a dedicated and loving father and grandfather, Al also loved hunting, fishing, and singing in Church. Throughout Al's entire life he held an unwavering faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him. He loved Roland Martin fishing shows on Saturday mornings, Gunsmoke (any time of day), and the Swedish Chef from the muppets made him laugh to tears.
Al wasn't just a carpenter, he was a master carpenter, an artisan. He built and finished some of the most spectacular homes in Springfield in a career spanning over fifty-five years. His humble personality would never allow him to say that of himself, but this was an opinion shared by countless clients, architects, builders, developers, and of course our family. Al taught, not just his family, but countless young carpenters to do things "the right way" and started their training with fundamentals that served them as they grew and went out on their own. He didn't know it, but he was a teacher.
There will be a celebration of life service Monday, April 18th at 10:30am at Bible Baptist Church, 227 E. Brooks St., Republic MO, 65738.
