IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alice Elizabeth
Batten
February 7, 1919 – January 14, 2019
Alice Elizabeth Batten, a baby girl, was born to Stephen and Maude Elizabeth (Ault/Hall) Davis on February 7, 1919 in Argusville, North Dakota. Her parents were to have another girl after 5 boys. Alice passed away January 14, 2019, in Bolivar, MO.
Alice's family moved a lot during her childhood. She found herself in many different towns and states. In Deering, MO, there were a lot of rocks, swamps, chiggers and mosquitos. She caught malaria and became very ill. At age 15, she met and married Meek Hight, and Thomas "David" Hight was born. She divorced after a short time and moved to MN. She supported her baby boy by keeping house for relatives. At age 20, she married Russell "Johnny" Minick and added two more children, James and Ruth Ann, to the family. She entered the work force to help support the family. She was a very hard worker. She tended her garden and canned what she grew in her spare time. Alice and Johnny were married 25 years before he passed away. In the 70's, she grew tired of cold winters and decided to move to AZ. She thought it was just beautiful! Until summer came and temperatures reached 100+ for the norm. She did meet Wes Batten and they moved to IL where they were married in 1975. They enjoyed traveling around the world and had many stories to tell of their trips. They also celebrated 25+ years of marriage.
She was a strong woman and an intelligent person who definitely had a mind of her own. She raised her 3 children to be the same way and was very proud of them. Her one wish was to make it to her 100th birthday, sadly she missed it by 24 days. She loved God and is happily celebrating with Him.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Maude; husbands, Meek Hight, Russell "Johnny" Minick, and Wesley Batten; infant son, Larry Minick; sister, Leona "Marie" Senne; and 5 brothers, Lawrence Edward, Alva "Glen", Stephen "Dean", Bonner Everett, and Vernon G.; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Alice is survived by her children, Thomas "David" and Elise (Schaefer), James Russell Minick and wife Lois (Karp), and Ruth Ann Minick-Riggenhagen; 12 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, April 27, 2019, in the Harvest Assembly Church, Fair Play, MO and burial to be in the Welcome Cemetery, Welcome, MN, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Harvest Assembly Church.
