Alan Mijo

Alan Toshio Mijo, 77, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away Monday, November 2, 2026. He was born August 25, 1949, in Kailua, Hawaii, to Roy and Kay Mijo.

Before leaving Hawaii, Alan worked at a local 7-Eleven, where he could often be found cleaning and greeting locals. When his parents passed away, his brother Melvin moved back to Oahu to take care of him. Eventually, Melvin moved Alan to Nixa, MO to be near his remaining family for a few years until deciding to move to Texas in 2014 where it was warmer. Once his brother passed, Alan was moved to Springfield, MO in 2022 where his remaining family cared for him. He became a resident at Quail Creek about 2 years ago where he was always ready with a smile and a handshake. Alan was protective of the nurses and CNAs that cared for him and if he thought someone was giving them a hard time, he wasn't afraid to speak up with a firm "No!" to let his feelings be known.

Alan was a kind and special person with a warm smile. It sometimes took a little time for him to warm up to new people, but a plate of french fries or a trip to McDonald's for a Filet-O-Fish could certainly help him settle in. He enjoyed having gift cards tucked away in his pockets whether they had money on them or not, especially for McDonald's, Popeyes, and KFC. He also really enjoyed watching John Wayne movies, 1970s and 1980s police shows, and game shows, T.J. Hooker and Password Plus were 2 of his favorites. He liked to say, "See!" or "I told you!" when he was able to guess how things on his show were going to turn out. Alan was also great at remembering actors and actresses' names.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Kay Mijo; and his brothers, Melvin and Warren Mijo.

Alan is survived by his nephew, Mike Mijo and wife Sharon; and his niece, Chantel Mijo.
